Pool Water Testing & Treatment in New Jersey

Water chemistry is the engine that keeps your pool running. Get it right and everything else falls into place — clear water, safe swimming, and equipment that lasts. Get it wrong and you’re dealing with algae, cloudy water, red eyes, and equipment damage.

Gorlin Pools has been providing pool maintenance services, including testing and treating pool water for New Jersey homeowners since 1999, and we know exactly what balanced water looks like — and how to get there.

What We Test For

Our water testing covers every important chemical parameter:

After testing, we adjust every parameter that’s out of range. We don’t just add chlorine and leave — we make sure the full chemistry picture is right.

Why Proper Water Chemistry Matters

Unbalanced water doesn’t just look bad — it causes real problems:

NJ’s summer heat and humidity make water chemistry especially unpredictable. Heavy rain dilutes chemicals. Heat accelerates evaporation. High bather loads consume chlorine fast — which is why professional pool cleaning factors all of this into every treatment.

Professional Testing vs. Home Test Strips

Home test strips are fine for a quick check between professional visits, but they don’t tell the whole story. Strip tests typically only check chlorine and pH, miss subtle imbalances, and can be inaccurate if the strips are old or stored improperly.

Professional testing uses calibrated equipment and multi-parameter analysis that catches problems home kits miss — like high stabilizer levels that make chlorine ineffective, or phosphate buildup that feeds algae. That’s why many homeowners rely on a weekly maintenance plan to keep everything balanced and prevent recurring issues.

What does a pool water test check?

We test free and total chlorine, pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, stabilizer, and salt (for saltwater pools). We also check for metals and phosphates when indicated.

Weekly or bi-weekly professional testing is ideal for NJ pools. Between visits, home test strips can give you a quick read on chlorine and pH.

Yes. Many water chemistry issues aren’t visible until they become severe. Clear water can still have dangerous chlorine levels, high calcium, or low pH. Testing is the only way to know for sure.

We can correct most chemistry issues in one or two visits, depending on how far out of range things are. Some corrections — like reducing very high stabilizer — take longer. We’ll always be honest about the timeline.

Yes. We can bring chemicals needed for treatment as part of your service visit. Chemical costs are separate from service fees and will be communicated upfront.
